A BRAINY hen has stunned its owners with its eggs-traordinary ability - to COUNT.

Rescued battery farm chick JJ was filmed playing a card game with owner Helen Jones, 47.
The clip shows the brainy fowl peck at each card the corresponding number of times, before being rewarded with a treat.
Now it has been dubbed the “Carol Vorderman” of the poultry world and has even started learning to play NOUGHTS AND CROSSES.

JJ had been confined to laying eggs in a battery farm before she was free by animal campaigners last year and rehomed.
Proud owner Helen, from Felmingham, Norfolk, discovered its amazing ability after hearing a rumour that chickens could be trained to perform tricks.
She said: “The important thing is to take very small steps and to not spend too long. It’s got to be fun for the hen or they lose interest.

  “I take her to one side away from the other chickens and spend two or three minutes building up her skills and rewarding with her corn.
“The other chickens all stand and watch and then they want to have a go themselves. One or two others have tried it but they don’t seem to get it.”
Helen and her husband Jason, 44, whose initials gave JJ her name, have been working with the hen for months — and the clever chick can now count up to seven.
Helen said: “We hope to have her counting to ten by Christmas!”
